The blistering summer holds some delight for the kids,at least. The Spanish Cultural Institute at the capital has organised a three-day animation film festival (20-22),appropriately titled Animadrid.

The festival features 32 short films by renowned Spanish filmmakers such as Cruz Delgado,Javier Tostado and Enrique Gato. Watch out for Cruz Delgado’s delightful films on Saturday. The 1964 film El Gato Con Botas is about a modest miller’s cat who confronts and overcomes an evil ogre. Consequently the diffident cat ends up winning the hand of the king’s daughter.

However,it’s not all mindless fun. Heavenly Tales,a 2005 film by Irene Iborra and David Gautier to be also screened on Saturday shows the growth of human civilization and the formation of the Milky Way. “The films are a delight and we have both commercial and documentaries to entertain them,” says Jesus Valiente Ubeda,Communications Manager.
