Unhappy with the state governments explanation on failing to enforce the ban on motorbike rallies in the run-up to the panchayat elections, the Calcutta High Court on Monday observed that there was a lack of coordination between the State Election Commission and the Trinamool Congress government.
The observation was made by Justice Sanjib Banerjee after Chief Secretary and Home Secretary filed their affidavits on the issue of deployment of security forces in the poll-bound districts and enforcing the ban on motor cycle rallies by political parties, respectively.
In its affidavit on enforcing the ban on bike rallies, the government told court that it has taken several actions in the districts going to polls. But the SEC counsel said that it was not aware of any such actions of the state as the state government has not communicated to it.
On the issue of deployment of security forces too,the government in its affidavit said 30 security personnel were deployed in each of the 329 blocks as per the SECs demand. But the SEC counsel said the government did not inform them about such deployment either.
After this,Justice Banerjee said there was communication gap and lack of co-ordination between the government and the SEC. The matter has been posted to Wednesday for next hearing.
