Once again,Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee has fuelled the speculations of early Assembly polls in the state. Addressing a rally at Basapara in Birbhum on Sunday,Banerjee asked the people to gear up for early Assembly polls. The wait is almost over. Just after two months and 20 days, the Election Commission is going to take charge of the election procedure in the state and then we will come to power through a democratic election, said Banerjee.
Just a month ago,Chief Election Commissioner S Y Quraishi during his visit to the state had ruled out advancement of the polls and had said that as per the Constitutional provisions the Assembly elections are due only next June.
Banerjee today led a rally against violence and walked from Palitpur to Basapara a distance of five and half kilometres. Trinamool Congress has always been a peoples party and always braved all odds to stand beside the people at times of need, she said after reaching Basapara.
Though she did not single out any of her political foes or friends, the Trinamool chief hit out at occasional visitors and arm-chaired politicians. We have faced all kinds of inclement weather to serve the people. I am not an arm-chair politician, who sits in air-conditioned rooms. I always come down on the streets, and so I know the people, the roads and the fields, unlike many others, she added.
Accusing the CPM of hiring goons for killing her party leaders leaders and supporters,Banerjee said that a section of the administration is not being able to function properly because of the CPM. But things will not be the same only after a few days, she said.
She,however, also talked about reviewing the land reforms the most important achievement of the Left Fronts three-decade long rule in the state. If voted to power,we will review the land reforms in the state and also investigate corrupt police officers, she said.
Talking about the recent train derailments in the state,Banerjee, also the Railway Minister, said it had been noticed that sabotage incidents took place in the areas where she started mass political campaigns.
Later, she laid the foundation stone of 33.9-km-long Siuri Prantik railway station and inaugurated Geetanjali Railway Museum at Bolpur.
