Joydeep,Arindam set to be selectors

After months of speculation and anticipation,the Cricket Association of Bengal will finally unfurl its new selection panel for the coming season.

After months of speculation and anticipation,the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) will finally unfurl its new selection panel for the coming season. Two posts of CAB’s four-member senior selection committee have been left vacant,and as things stand on the eve of Tuesday’s final meeting,Maidan veterans Joydeep Mukherjee and Arindam Sarkar are expected to be inducted into the panel.

The senior selection committee is chaired by former national selector and Ranji Trophy-winning captain Sambaran Banerjee,with Bengal opener of yesteryears Devang Gandhi set to continue for another two years. Two posts were left vacant this season as Saradindu Mukherjee and Kalyan Chowdhury completed their terms.

Joydeep’s induction has been anticipated all along even as the former Bengal cricketer has been playing an active role with IPL franchise Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) over the past couple of seasons. He is currently on KKR’s payroll as its cricket manager. Later this week,the new selection committee will pick the Bengal team for the east zone leg of the BCCI’s national Twenty20 one-dayers. The zonal leg,featuring Bengal,Orissa,Jharkhand,Assam and Tripura will be played in Dhanbad from October 20 to 25.

The new selection panel is also looking to prune down the probables list before picking the final squad for the Ranji Trophy that will get underway in November 3.

Meanwhile,CAB joint-secretary Biswarup Dey will go to Mumbai on Saturday to attend the all-important summit of the BCCI’s tour and fixture committee.
