Five persons have been arrested in connection with the violence reported at Keshpur in West Midnapore on Monday.
Former Justice Nure Alam Chaudhury,Trinamool candidate from Ghatal,alleged that police have arrested party worker Bimal Samanta from his residence last night in connection with the incident,where four Trinamool members were injured in an alleged attack by CPM members. Keshpur falls in the Ghatal parliamentary constituency.
Trinamool camp alleged that Samanta had merely hoisted the party flag but the police arrested him on false charges under the Arms Act. On Tuesday,Chaudhury visited Samantas residence at Keshpur and his wife lodged a counter complaint with the local police station.
Manoj Verma,district police chief,said,I dont know the details of the complaint lodged.
Chaudhury also lodged a complaint lodged with the Election Commission that law and order has deteriorated at Keshpur and the situation is not conducive for polls.
He claimed that CPM cadres have let loose a reign of terror making it difficult to continue the poll campaign. CPM goons on bikes are terrorising the people of Keshpur before the elections.
CPI candidate from the area Gurudas Dasgupta said he was not aware of the situation but he has not visited Keshpur in the last seven days.
Imtiaz Ali,Keshpur zonal committee member of the CPM,alleged that goons hired by the Trinamool tried to capture the villages. When locals resisted the attempt,violence broke out on Monday.
In a related incident,tension prevailed in Salboni after two CPM workers were killed by suspected Maoists in Madhupur village on Tuesday evening.
