Rahul Ganju and Rajat Suri agree that 8485 is an unusual name for a designer brand. “We wanted the name of the label to be incidental to everybody but us. The clothes, however, are made for the public,” says Ganju,24,one half of the new menswear designer duo to hit city’s fashion scene. 8485 is showcasing its designs at “The First Showing” at the Alliance Francaise, featuring 23 designs in shirts and 12 designs in T-shirts. Besides casuals,8485’s collection comprises clothes for the office and clubs.

While Ganju is a graduate in fashion design from NIFT,Delhi,Suri,25,graduated from Rai University. Both were working with other designers and export houses till six months ago when they decided to launch their own label. The shirts, though simple appear to be inspired by minimalist as well as futuristic influences. The details range from colour blocking in shirts to stitched lines and panels on T-shirts. “We’ve used material such as cotton-satin for the club-wear and poplin and cambric fabric for the office and casualwear. The idea is to dress with attitude no matter where you’re going,” says Ganju. The range starts at Rs 1,800 for shirts and Rs 950 for T-shirts.
