Cops to question Modi for 2 days

A Day after police arrested the managing director of Vedic Village,Rajkishore Modi,in connection with the seizure of arms and ammunition from the resort,the court remanded him in two-day police custody.

A Day after police arrested the managing director of Vedic Village,Rajkishore Modi,in connection with the seizure of arms and ammunition from the resort,the court remanded him in two-day police custody.

“The police have slapped 14 charges against Rajkishore Modi,three of which are non-bailable offences,” said Modi’s counsel Abhijit Sarker.

On Saturday,senior police officers interrogated Modi for almost the entire day. “Since we got sufficient

evidence against Modi we arrested him,” Sukumar Chatterjee,IC,Rajarhat police station told The Indian Express.

Family members of Modi,however,remained tight-lipped. “They are very distressed,” an employee of the household said.

Amid this,many villagers at Sikharpur,where the resort is situated,are coming forward with allegations of land-grabbing by the Vedic Village management.

“I had 11 cottahs of land which they have taken without paying me a single penny. I knocked at every door from panchayat to police to political parties,but no one listened to my plea,” said Rabin Sardar,a villager.

Jharna Roy,a former panchayat member,said that her two bighas of land have been occupied by the Vedic Village management.

“They do not allow me to go to my land which has palm and bamboo grooves. If I go,security guards chase me away,” said Roy.

“I filed complaints with the police but nothing happened,” she added.
