Chokhani murder accused arrested

Almost a year after 54-year-old Usha Chokhani was found murdered in her Mandeville Garden house in Kolkata,police have arrested the prime accused from Bengaluru.

Almost a year after 54-year-old Usha Chokhani was found murdered in her Mandeville Garden house in Kolkata,police have arrested the prime accused from Bengaluru.

Kishan Yadav (24) who worked as a domestic help at Chokhani’s home had gone missing from the day of the murder and was a prime suspect behind the killing.

Yadav is a resident of Dewa village in the Banka district of Bihar. Soon after the incident,a team from Kolkata police left for his village but he had absconded by then. For nine months,Yadav had been on the run till Kolkata police got information that he was at Mahadevpura near Bengaluru.

“A team was sent to Bengaluru. It stayed there for three days and arrested Yadav from Garudachar Pallaya,30 kilometres from Bengaluru city,” said DC (DD) Jawed Shamim. The accused has been produced in court and police will be bringing him to Kolkata on January 9. Yadav had been residing as Malik Yadav in the place for over three months and worked as a mason with construction companies.

Chokhani was found stabbed to death in her flat in Wallace Gardens apartment. According to police,Yadav had plans to steal cash and gold.

“But as soon as the murder was committed,the doorbell rang and the murderer panicked and fled the house without any cash or gold,” said a senior police officer.

Usha,a divorcee,had been living alone for the past 10 years. Her two sons,Bharat and Nikhil,live with their father Atmaram Chokhani in Ballygunge Place.
