THIS was one of the last tweets of Rituparno Ghosh.

The celebrated director known for his women-centric movies ,this time chose Saradindu Bandyopadhyay’s iconic detective character Byomkesh Bakshi as the central character of Satyanewshi. The movie based on the novel Chorabali will be the last film directed by Rituparno, who described himself as the “bad student of cinema”.

“Shooting of the film is complete. What remains is editing and dubbing. The last day was shot at Taki,on May 26. Most of the film had been shot on the set at Purple Movie Town,” said a senior executive of Venkatesh Films which is producing the film.

For the role of Byomkesh Bakshi,Rituparno had roped in Sujoy Ghosh, the director of the last year’s hit Hindi film Kahaani. On Thursday,Sujoy joined other actors in paying tribute to the noted director.

The film also stars Anindya Chatterjee,Arpita Chatterjee, who plays the queen, and Indraniel Sengupta as the king. “I can’t believe that the man with whom I was working a few days ago,is no more. He was not keeping well but he never showed it while we were shooting for the film. He was full of energy while shooting,” recalled Arpita, who had also earlier worked with him in Utsab.
