Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Monday said that 43 new PTTI training institutes will be set up in 15 districts. The institutes will be recognised by National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE).
This will help the PTTI students carry out their training programme smoothly,she added.
Ashok Rudra,general secretary West Bengal Primary Teachers Training Institute,welcomed the governments announcement. The CM has kept her words. We hope that the institute will be set up soon, Rudra said.
There are already 57 government PTTIs and with another 43,the total number of PTTIs will rise to 100.
Education Department officials said the NCTE has granted certain concessions to the PTTIs to enable them to be recognized. These institutions can also provide regular pre-service training.
The Centre had asked the state to revisit its recruitment process and ensure that persons possessing minimum qualification as prescribed by the NCTE are only recruited to avoid any future complication .
