Few months ago,she walked in for the audition of Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week (WIFW),dressed in a white shirt and blue jeans, and now Delhi-based model Ninja Singh is the winner of the Ford Models Supermodel,India,2011. “My family welcomed me with garlands and a tika when I came back home,” says the 20-year-old,who is studying to be a dentist.

Singh was chosen from among 20 finalists who walked the ramp at Leela Kempinski,Gurgaon,on Wednesday evening. While veejay Gaurav Kapoor and model Sarah Jane Dias were the emcees of the evening, the jury comprised actor Bipasha Basu, fashion designer Manish Malhotra,Leila Alaoui from Ford Models,FDCI chairman Sunil Sethi, and Anil Chopra,CEO,Lakme Lever.

Designers Gauri and Nainika had created costumes inspired from the Victorian Era for the contestants and Sunidhi Chauhan and Anushka Manchanda sang for the audience. The show also had a dance performance by Isha Sharvani.

Singh has a lot to look forward to. To begin with, next month, she will head to New York, where she will be part of the prestigious Ford global contest. Later, when she returns, she will participate in the Spring Summer edition of WIFW,in October. She does confess her ignorance about the dress-code model auditions though. “I remember that I walked in plain clothes into a room full of models in short skirt and high heels. I’d got my 10-year-old brother along with me for the audition. And look where I am today,” she gushes.
