Days ahead of the start of the new academic session, the Delhi University on Sunday announced allocations for undergraduate programmes in its second round of admissions. The university plans to conduct additional allocations to fill seats optimally before the fresh academic session begins on August 29, said officials.

The university has sanctioned approximately 71,600 seats in total, according to an official statement. A total of 65,775 admissions were confirmed in the first round with 43,067 candidates opting for upgrades and 20,829 choosing to freeze their seats. The second round saw 24,869 new allocations while 27,554 candidates secured chosen preferences through the upgrade process.

This year, candidates rejected in the first round due to invalid certificates or documents have been reconsidered in the unreserved category based on merit and preference, subject to seat availability.

To streamline the admission process, the university has implemented a new system for upgraded candidates. This allows for direct processing at the college level in a move intended to reduce grievances and expedite admissions. The university emphasised that this feature will significantly reduce the burden of addressing yearly grievances from candidates who missed taking action on their upgraded seats.

“The allocation of the candidates who have received an upgrade will be already activated for the direct processing at the level of colleges. This feature will reduce the grievances to a larger extent which the university used to receive every year from the candidates who missed taking an action on their upgraded seats. Since the new allocation of already admitted candidates will be active, the college will be able to process the applications as soon as they are allocated.

The statement further advised candidates who received upgrades to closely monitor their dashboards for payment information and further instructions. This new system aims to allow colleges to process applications as soon as they are allocated, marking an improvement in the university’s admission procedures. The first list of allocation of seats was declared by the varsity at 5 pm on August 16.

Subsequently, the colleges verified and approved the online applications of the candidates between 5 pm on August 16.

The new session was earlier dated to commence on August 1. The postponement was due to the delay in the announcement of the Common University Entrance Test (CUET) result by the (National Testing Agency amid allegations of discrepancies linked to National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) and UGC-NET. This year, DU has introduced the single girl child quota under its supernumerary category, where a single girl will be admitted under this quota based on merit across programmes.

Like last year, admission to all programmes is based on scores obtained in CUET. For undergraduate aspirants, on offer are around 71,000 seats for 79 undergraduate programmes and 183 BA programme combinations in 69 colleges.
