Classical music and dance buffs can line up for a three-day festival organised by Kalaikoodam. It is a fitting finale to the year-long silver jubilee celebrations of the institute of art founded by Komala Varadan (above,in the picture). It will begin, eruditely enough, with a day-long discussion on “Towards a Cultural Policy” at the India International Centre on July 21. The second day will have Carnatic vocal recital by N Vijay Siva at the Kamani Auditorium. The festival will conclude with a Bharatnatyam performance by Varadan, who will bring to life Tulsi Das’s Ramcharitmanas. The Ramayana, which is usually presented as a ballet, will be performed by Varadan as a solo recital in the narrative mode at the Kamani Auditorium.
