With the Delhi Metros network doubling post-Phase II,the organisation has claimed to be one of the biggest recruiters in the government sector, with around 1,000 candidates being enrolled every year. To train the new recruits, the DMRC has expanded their training centre in Shastri Park and brought in the latest technology and training modules.
The DMRC has also been approached by other metro rail networks like the Bangalore Metro for assistance in training their staff.
A team from the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation will be trained by us from June or July. Also,20 experienced station controllers and train operators will be deputed with the Airport Metro Express Line, S K Sinha,Additional General Manager (Recruitment and Training) DMRC,said. Most of the Metro training modules have been developed after consultation with the Hong Kong and Singapore Metros.
The new building in Shastri Park can accommodate 600 trainees at a time; five model rooms have also been incorporated where trainees will be taught signalling, automatic fare collection, electrification, train running operations and related processes. Commissioned in January, the building has equipment like the full motion simulator system,a computer-based training lab and heat, ventilation and air-conditioning troubleshooting simulator (to train maintenance staff).
The Metro also claims to have achieved a benchmark in terms of number of staff employed for the operations and maintenance wings, with 35.3 staff per route km as against the Kolkata Metros 80 staff per route km,Hong Kongs metro with 58 staff per route km and Singapore metro with 32 staff per route km. Satish Kumar, director (Electrical),and officiating managing director said all proposed lines on Phase II will become functional by September.
