(Express File Photo by Anil Sharma) The technical staff at Delhi’s Lok Nayak Hospital have said that they have not been paid salaries for the last seven months.
The 47 technical staff are deployed in managing operation theatres (OT), ventilators in Covid ICU wards and also look after patients administered anaesthesia before a surgery. They have alleged that the hospital administration has not paid them salaries from January 2023.
When contacted, medical director of Lok Nayak Hospital Dr Suresh Kumar said that after the Covid-19 pandemic ended, the contracts of the 47 OT technicians were put on hold by the competent authority, after which they took up several litigations in court.
“We have now approved the interim salary and it is under process,” said Dr Kumar.
One of the OT technicians said the Delhi government recruited them when they needed their help the most during the pandemic. The technician added, “The Delhi government simply does not acknowledge our services while we continue to work tirelessly everyday.”
“We have worked during the most challenging times of Covid-19 and were deployed to look after ICU-admitted patients and also those patients who were in Ramlila Maidan. Now most of us are deployed in Lok Nayak OT, but have been working without any pay for the last seven months. Though the court ordered a stay in January, we did not receive our salaries,” he said.
