Stripping case: Rights panel seeks report

The National Human Rights Commission has taken suo motu cognizance of media reports alleging that a woman was forcibly stripped at a Delhi Police post and asked by the cops to have sex with her 12-year-old son.

The National Human Rights Commission has taken suo motu cognizance of media reports alleging that a woman was forcibly stripped at a Delhi Police post and asked by the cops to have sex with her 12-year-old son. The Commission has asked for a report in this regard from Delhi police chief Y S Dadwal. “Considering the contents of media reports as distressing,we have observed that if these are true then it is a serious issue of violation of human rights. We have issued a notice to the Commissioner calling for a report within four weeks from the date of the receipt,” a statement released by the Commission read.

The 30-year-old woman, who resides in a slum cluster in West Delhi’s Mayapuri area, had claimed in a complaint to Dadwal that she was forced to strip on the evening of May 23 after her two sons were apprehended in a theft case at Rajouri Garden police post. She also claimed that the cops asked her to have sex with her 12-year-old son. The Delhi Police suspended two personnel, including a woman head constable and transferred another for “procedural lapses in handling juveniles”.
