A day after the Delhi Cabinet sent its reply to the proposal of taking the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) under its wing,Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit went to meet Home Minister P Chidambaram on Thursday. She was reportedly there to thank him.

While the chief minister refused to comment on her 15-minute visit to North Block, sources said Dikshit has reiterated the government’s request to the Centre to redraft the Delhi Municipal Corporation Act of 1958 and clearly demarcate the powers of Delhi government and the Lieutenant Governor.

The Delhi Cabinet has reportedly requested complete non interference from any authority, including the LG’s office that would still hold powers over the civic agency after the 23 points of the proposal were implemented.

The Dikshit government, meanwhile, has also decided to drop her demands of transferring powers of the Delhi police and the DDA to the government for the time being.

Dikshit had earlier made several representations to the Centre arguing that it should transfer control of land and some aspects of policing to the city government so that it can perform better.
