SC: Noida being ‘tossed around’

The Supreme Court on Tuesday said Noida was being “tossed around” by successive governments on land allotment issues.

The Supreme Court on Tuesday said Noida was being “tossed around” by successive governments on land allotment issues. The apex court made the observation while hearing a batch of appeals challenging cancellation of allotment of land to 14 hotels in Noida.

“Noida is like a ball being tossed around by governments” that have changed tunes from time to time, the court said. The court criticised decisions of successive governments in dealing with the land allotment issue of these 14 hotels proposed to be built for next October’s Commonwealth Games.

The Mayawati administration had scrapped land leases given to various companies by her predecessor Mulayam Singh government to set up 14 hotels in Noida. The BSP government cited alleged corruption in land auction for the decision.

Companies like ITC,Royal Orchid,Clarkston Hotels and others have challenged a Allahabad High Court judgment that quashed the cancellation orders passed by Noida Authority and had referred the matter to the state government for reconsideration.

The apex court also noted that there was confusion regarding to the intent of the policy of May 22,2006,which was originally in Hindi,as it had been interpreted differently by different parties due to multiple translations.
