The police have arrested a six-member gang that allegedly used to commit robberies in buses across South Delhi during the rush hours. The accused were arrested at Kalindi Kunj in Southeast Delhi on Wednesday.
The gang had targeted a DTC Outer Mudrika bus on Maa Anandmai Marg in Okhla on November 27. They boarded the bus and pinched a wallet and a mobile phone from two different persons. When a couple of co-passengers,who happened to notice the crime,raised the alarm,they were slashed with surgical blades on the face and neck. Subsequently,the pickpockets alighted from the bus and fled, said Ashok Chand,DCP,Crime Branch.
They were,however,arrested while trying to target another bus in Kalindi Kunj on Wednesday. Identifying the accused as Salim alias Pandy,Baapi Biswas,Salim alias Tilli,Sonu,Gopal Biswas and Manoj,the police said they hailed from Ambedkar Nagar and Govindpuri.
During interrogation,Biswas revealed that his gang used to operate only in a particular area of South Delhi. The accused would strike during the rush hour. Two of the gang members would stand near the bus entrance to ensure a quick getaway,while the others stole wallets and mobile phones from passengers. Biswas,the gangleader,would follow the bus on a motorcycle, said Chand.
While Biswas was involved in more than three cases of injury and theft in the Kalkaji and Okhla Industrial Area police station limits,Salim figures in more than seven cases of robbery,illegal possession of arms,theft and preparation for dacoity in Saket,Jaitput,Kalkaji,Hauz Khas and Malaviya Nagar areas.
