A few days after the mercury touched the highest mark for the season,duststorm and rain brought relief for residents on Saturday. The maximum temperature plummeted to 32.4 degrees Celsius,a whopping seven degrees below normal.
On May 17,the mercury had climbed to 44.1 degrees Celsius,five degrees above normal,bringing in heatwave conditions to the city.
The night temperature on Saturday remained normal at 26.1 degrees Celsius. NCR and parts of Delhi,such as Mayur Vihar,witnessed slight hail.
The Safdarjung Met department recorded 1.7 mm of rainfall. Many areas in the city were waterlogged and traffic was affected due to it.
The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) received 18 complaints of waterlogging,mainly from Central zone. The New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) received two complaints of waterlogging.
The MCD also said 35 trees were reportedly uprooted during the storm and three cases of wall and roof collapse were reported. There was no reported loss of life.
In NDMC area,two trees were uprooted in Gol Market.
According to the weatherman,temperature will remain cool on Sunday as well but starting Monday the mercury is likely to cross 40 degrees. There is a western disturbance over Jammu and Kashmir and an upper air cyclonic circulation over Punjab. Both the phenomena caused the storm and the rain, said BP Yadav,Director,IMD.
Rain and squall is expected on Sunday and the temperature is likely to be around 32 degrees Celsius. The minimum temperature is expected to be around 25 degrees.
