A security guard at All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Delhi, has accused the institute’s chief security officer (CSO) of harassment and using casteist slurs against her. Following her written complaint, the institute has now formed an inquiry committee to investigate the allegations.

In her complaint to the National Commission for Scheduled Castes on October 3, the security guard said that she met the CSO on October 2 to request a change in her shift timings. She had been put on the night shift and she wanted it changed as she had three children to look after, she said.

She also pointed out that she looked after her two daughters and son on her own as her husband had passed away.

The alleged incident took place in the CSO’s office. In her complaint, the security guard said that the CSO harassed her, used casteist slurs against her, and threatened to throw her out of the job. When she stepped out of his office, the CSO followed her outside, used casteist slurs, and threatened her in front of her colleagues, she said.

A copy of the complaint was also marked to Union Health Minister J P Nadda and AIIMS Director M Srinivas. In it, the security guard also requested that the CCTV footage of the administrative block where the incident occurred be preserved.

The AIIMS committee set up on October 15 to probe the allegations has been asked to submit a preliminary investigation report along with the evidentiary material taken on record within seven days.
