Theme parties, from Expat Nights to Hi-Flyers Nights,at city nightclubs that offer free booze, attract huge crowds made of young clients. They only reiterate why the legal age of drinking is such a farce
Sanchi Gupta keeps Wednesday nights for her girlfriends. Dressed to party, they drive down to a plush South Delhi club. For once, there is no cover charge to pay and the girls breeze in. Inside, the martini flows freely till late at night and the DJ dishes out the latest club tracks with an extra edge. The crowd at the bar and on the dance floor are all women it is the Ladies Night in progress.
The next day,the posters for the Ladies Night goes down and ones celebrating the Expat Night come up,to be replaced by Models Night banners on Fridays. The music is the same,as is the decor and DJ,and in most cases, the deals are the same only the guest profile seems to change. Clearly,at city nightclubs, every day closer to the weekend is a different reason to party.
Even pilots now have a night of their own the Hi-flyers Night every Sunday at Manajsa,a new pub in Hauz Khas. Pilots, cabin crew and ground staff of airlines get 50 per cent discount on drinks. The first Sunday we organised this,25-30 people turned up,and last Sunday, more than 70 people from the airlines were at Manajsa, says Singh. Four years after theme nights were introduced, they are still revving up the party spirit in Delhi.
Even as people debate the age limit for alcohol consumption in the party metros of Delhi and Mumbai, the clubs and pubs are giving you 101 reasons to do a bottoms up,in the form of nights. Ladies Night are all about partying with your girl gang, minus the boyfriends. The bartenders treat you differently and its an excuse to be wild and girly its a pyjama party in heels and dresses, says Gupta. Keya in DLF Promenade and Attitude Live in Gurgaon, for instance, are packed on Ladies Night. Keya, which holds Ladies Nights on Wednesdays, gives out two coupons and a band that entitles one to three free drinks, from beer to wine, and a 1+1 drink offer. Attitude Live, where Ladies Night is on Thursdays, makes the ladies gulp down unlimited drinks. A lot of women turn up on Wednesday, around 100 on a Ladies Night, says Ajoy Chatterjee, manager,Keya.
Rummy Sharma, owner of Club Kuki in Greater Kailash, however, believes that the charm of the Ladies Night is dying and hence,Kuki also hosts the Expat Nights on Thursdays which have been quite a hit. The expat community in Delhi is growing and thats why it should be captured in this way. They like to socialise and an Expat Night lets them meet new people, says Sharma. Started a year ago,an Expat Night package at Kuki ranges between Rs 699 and Rs 899 and you get yourself unlimited drinks.
At Urban Pind in Greater Kailash,Wednesdays,Thursdays and Fridays are Ladies Night,Expat and Media Night and Model Night respectively. Model Nights are only applicable for female models and they have to show their ID cards given by modeling agencies and they get five free drinks from Red Bull to red wine and one plate of snack, says Sanjay Jaiswal, general manager of the popular club. Which night are you attending tonight?
