No immediate solution to expressway waterlogging

The process of constructing ‘longitudinal drains’, planned to unclog the service roads especially from Rajiv Chowk to Kherki Dhuala, has been postponed.

The waterlogging problems on the Delhi-Gurgaon Expressway may not be resolved this monsoon, despite the Punjab and Haryana High Court’s directive to the National Highway Authority of India on the issue, due to the procedural delays and involvement of multiple authorities in the project.

The High Court had issued directions on December 11 and reiterated on May 26 that the work on the longitudinal drain ought to be finished before the next hearing — scheduled on September 17 — so that the service lanes of the Expressway do not get clogged during monsoon this year. But the process of constructing ‘longitudinal drains’, planned to unclog the service roads especially from Rajiv Chowk to Kherki Dhuala, has been postponed.

The construction work will start in August.
