No House on Fire

Grammy-nominee Bob Sinclar’s performance in Delhi was a dud.

After last week’s disappointing 25-minute performance by American rapper,Pitbull, and the tough-to forget Metallica fiasco in November,we earnestly hoped for an international artiste to save the night for Delhi’s party revelers. What better than Grammy-nominee,Bob Sinclar, the popular French DJ,who was expected to rock the party scene in the Capital on Wednesday,or so we assumed. The 42-year-old credited with hit remixes such as World,Hold On,Love Generation and Rock this Party played a two-hour-long disappointing set at Kitty Su,The Lalit, and left the audience asking for more.

Fashionably late by two hours,Sinclar’s entry behind the console post 1 am,was met with hoots, applause and loud screams by women for the French sweetheart. But Sinclar failed to live up to the expectations of his fans. The gig began slow, ended slow and had its major share of lows than highs. After a few minutes of monotonous House music,Sinclar threw in House remixes of hit numbers such as Coldplay’s Fix You,Adele’s Rolling in the deep and Diddy-Dirty Money’s I’m Coming Home. Unable to judge the Indian House music fan,who loves a high tempo and fast beat,Sinclar’s set was all about hit and trial. It’s not as if the party was an utter flop because you could spot a number of people dancing on the floor, seats and table tops. But the expectations from Sinclar were higher.

This was not his first time in the country as Sinclar had a successful five-city tour last year. “I was surprised with the popularity of house music in India last year. I personally love the sitar and am a huge fan of Pandit Ravi Shankar,” said Sinclar in a chat before the gig. Keen to be part of a Bollywood project in the future,Sinclar’s ideal DJ set is a quirky mix of hip hop beats, jazz and sitar strings. Only if this enthusiastic, quirky side of Sinclar’s music was part of the Kitty Su set.
