New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) chairman Jalaj Srivastava on Saturday said the Council was planning to improve the grievance redressal system by setting up a 24-hour call centre accessible through a four-digit number. He said the centre would manned by five persons in eight-hour shifts.
If no action is taken against a particular complaint within two days, the matter will directly reach the next higher authority. In four days,it will reach me, he said.
He was speaking at a face-to-face interaction organised by the FICCI Ladies Organisation (FLO) in the capital on Saturday.
The commissioners of the North and South Municipal Corporations, who also attended the session, addressed citizens concerns over a range of issues including drainage, unplanned development, garbage collection, and monkey and stray dog menace.
Speaking about the unplanned development in many areas,South corporation commissioner Manish Gupta said,Unplanned development is a problem which is being accelerated by the regularisation of colonies. People believe that unplanned colonies will ultimately be regularised. So they are building more of these.
North corporation commissioner P K Gupta said,Areas such as Chandni Chowk and Karol Bagh are very congested and there is hardly any space to set up sanitation and drainage facilities.
When the issue of timely action and effectiveness of response was raised, the commissioners said the coordination between various public bodies that oversee civic well-being in Delhi was poor.
Manish Gupta said,We have been asking DDA for 5-6 acres for the past four years to set up more waste-processing plants. The matter has still not been resolved.
He said almost 4,000 tonnes of debris was generated every day in Delhi.
Of this,3,000 tonnes ended up in nallahs, leading to blocked drains and water-logged roads.
