A 34-year-old journalist was assaulted, allegedly by a group of motorcycle-borne young men near Neeti Bagh in South Delhi on Monday night. The journalists cab was surrounded by the men who were reportedly wearing Anna caps, carrying national flags and were shouting pro-Hazare slogans.
D P Satish, senior editor with CNN-IBN,who was on his way home in Mayur Vihar, was beaten up with sticks. The cab driver fled the spot after the incident.
The incident was reported around 10.30 pm on Monday.
I was in a cab when a group of 10-15 young men on motorcycles tried to overtake the vehicle three or four times on the August Kranti Marg stretch. All of them had painted Tricolour on their faces and were shouting slogans supporting Anna Hazare. They were also carrying the national flag and came dangerously close to our vehicle several times, said Satish, who is recuperating at Fortis Hospital in Vasant Kunj.
He said that the men surrounded his cab when it stopped near the intersection point at Uday Park and smashed the windowpanes and started hurling abuses.
All of a sudden they broke open the cabs door. All I remember is they attacked me on the head with sticks and I lost consciousness. Next I remember was being in hospital, he said. Police said Satish also had an argument with the bikers.
It was a passerby who rushed Satish to AIIMS. The cab driver had fled the scene. We have registered a case. The victim was not able to note down the registration number of the motorcycles. It seems to be a blind case, but we are investigating, said a senior police officer.
The stretch where the incident took place does not have any CCTV cameras.
