Leaders of JD(S) unit in Delhi join AAP

Apart from the JD(S), a large number of BSP and Congress workers from the Northeast Delhi parliamentary constituency also joined the AAP.

Members of the state unit of the Janata Dal (Secular) merged with the Aam Aadmi Party on Saturday, led by its state president Haji Ikram Hassan. AAP leaders said apart from the state leadership of the JD(S), over 100 workers from the capital too joined the AAP.

They were welcomed into the party by Dilip Pandey and Anand Kumar, the AAP candidate for the Northeast Delhi constituency.

On Saturday, several leaders, including JD(S) Delhi unit vice-president Haji Mohammad Yamin, secretaries Afzal Siddiqui, Haji Muteja and Kishan Lal, joined the AAP.

The JD(S) women’s wing president Sukshma Singh and secretary Sahiba Naqvi, spokesperson Shafiq Mohammad and vice-president Afzal Siddiqui also became AAP members.

Apart from the JD(S), a large number of BSP and Congress workers from the Northeast Delhi parliamentary constituency also joined the AAP.

“Our party has considerable presence in South India (Karnataka), but does not have the same effect in Delhi. Also, we support the AAP and Arvind Kejriwal in his movement against corruption. That is why we have joined the party,” Haji Ikram Hassan said.
The JD(S), under the leadership of former prime minister H D Deve Gowda, has a strong base in Karnataka and Kerala.

Pandey said, “The AAP is willing to welcome political activists with a clean track record into its fold who are ready to work for the eradication of corruption.”
