To motivate personnel at the ground level, the Delhi Police has decided to reward beat officers every month for exceptional work.
Calling the work of beat officers crucial,Delhi Police Commissioner B K Gupta on Saturday said he has decided to reward the best beat officers from each police station every month to encourage them. Each of the 17 constables and head constables, working as beat officers from various districts and units of the Delhi Police, were awarded Rs 2,000. Till now, this was a quarterly affair and, that too,at the district level. We have now decided to extend it to every police station. The Deputy Commissioners of Police will select best beat officers from each police station every month. This initiative is aimed at motivating staffers at police station level to achieve better policing, Gupta said.
If the beat system is effective,it will help detect as well as prevent crimes, said Gupta, adding that group patrolling should also be strengthened as it provides a demonstrative effect. The police have already started deploying PCR vans near banks between 10 am and 2 pm to prevent incidents of snatching.
