Panchayat polls in Gurgaon on July 6
Haryana State Election Commissioner Dharam Vir on Monday said Panchayat poll in eight districts of the state — Gurgaon,Panchkula,Yamunanagar,Karnal,Panipat,Rohtak,Hisar and Rewari — will be held in two phases on July 6 and 10. The polls will be held to elect 2,112 sarpanches and 20,169 panches of the Gram Panchayats; 980 members of Panchayat Samiti and 130 members of Zila Parishad. Notices will be published by the District Election Officers (Panchayat) on June 21 in Form 2 or 3 for inviting nominations. General elections of the PRIs of Gurgaon,Panchkula,Rohtak and Panipat districts will be held in one phase on July 6.

No hurry to de-seal,High Court tells company
The Delhi High Court on Monday refused to direct the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) to de-seal a few mobile towers of GTL Infrastructure. The infrastructure company pleaded before the court that the towers should be de-sealed because the MCD had no power to seal them on the grounds of non-payment of requisite licence fee and violation of guidelines. The court,however,refused to pass any such order saying there is no urgency in the matter. A similar petition is pending before a Division Bench that will hear the case on July 8.

Visually challenged man gets 10 yrs in jail for rape
A city court has sentenced a visually challenged man to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment for raping a 21-year-old visually challenged student at a hostel run by him here two years ago. Additional Sessions Judge Madhu Jain also imposed a fine of Rs 2,000 on Rajender Gupta after holding him guilty of rape and other offences under the IPC. Gupta was arrested on January 16,2008,after a case was lodged at the Timarpur police station by the victim.

Cash,jewellery worth Rs 11 lakh robbed
Three armed assailants allegedly took a family at Prashant Vihar hostage and robbed them of cash and valuables worth Rs 11 lakh on Monday afternoon,said the police. Keshav Bansal’s,the owner,wife and two children were at home when the incident took place. The assailants took Rs 1 lakh cash and jewellery worth Rs 10 lakh at gunpoint,a senior police officer said. Bansal has a factory of crude plastics in Samaypur Badli.

Priest’s house robbed,Rs 4.5 lakh looted
A Muslim priest,Haji Mohammad Asghar (55),alleged that three masked assailants,including a woman,entered his residence at Gali number 10,Brahmpuri in Northeast Delhi and made away with valuables worth lakhs. The robbers allegedly decamped with Rs 3.5 lakh belonging to the Mosque Trust and Rs 1 lakh that the priest had saved. The incident was reported at 9.30 pm on Monday night in New Usmanpur area.

Three-year-old boy run over by three-wheeler
A three-year-old boy was killed when a three-wheeler hit him while he was crossing the road with his father in Southeast Delhi at 7 pm on Monday. The boy,Rahul was rushed to AIIMS Trauma Centre,where he was declared brought dead. The driver was arrested.
