A wave of orange erupted in joy and startled the sleepy neighbourhood of Vasant Vihar as the Netherlands glided into the finals of the FIFA World Cup,defeating Uruguay 3-2. Over 150 Dutch supporters drank orange cocktails and cheered for their country at NewsCafe at DLF Promenade. The political counselor for the Embassy of the Netherlands,Alex Oosterwijk, was ready to kick-start the celebrations at half-time itself when the Netherlands was leading 1-0. “When we win,” he said in cheerful optimism,“we’re going to party all night and then go straight to work the next day.” The Uruguayan supporters were clearly outnumbered at the event hosted by the Netherlands Embassy, but later on joined in the celebrations, which went on till early Wednesday morning. A match with Spain would be interesting,Oosterwijk said, but a match with Germany would give them a chance to get even. “I don’t want to jinx it,but a final with Germany would be amazing,” he said. “We’ll watch the match at the German Embassy with them, and get our 1974 revenge,” he grinned.
