Day two at the India Fashion Week saw some Bollywood star turns on the ramp
When Delhis stiletto set is absent from the front rows of the Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week (WIFW),designers invariably pull out their trump cards (read stars/starlets from Bollywood) to push up the celeb quotient. Day 2 of the ongoing Week at the NSIC grounds in Okhla saw several out-of-work Bollywood actors striding down the runway or putting in bit appearances in the front row.
Newbie designer,Delhi-based Joy Mitra consolidated his Bong connection by roping in actor Koena Mitra for his morning show. Mitra, better known for her item songs, cut a diffident figure in a heavily embellished red lehenga. Meanwhile, actor Vivek Oberoi,in town to promote his film Prince, was found appreciating designer duo Rohit Gandhi-Rahul Khannas collection from the front row. At the end of the dark noir show which celebrated the colour black,Oberoi churned out the stock quotes: The show was absolutely fabulous. I liked the drama and the play of light.
The show,in fact, was quite a spectacle. When the lights dimmed, the models prowled down the runway in slinky black dresses, sporting black masks. There was every fashionistas wardrobe staple the basic black dress, this time, ruffled up with lace,or with open-back satin jerseys. A sleek black mini dress with fluted sleeves earned an appreciative hoot from the audience, while lending a fun touch was a multi-coloured dress with detailing around the shoulders. Its a take on the vintage look, combining elements from the 60s and
the 80s, said Khanna, post the show.
Sanchita Ajjampurs show was a delightful presentation of 38 outfits on the runway from rainbow print silk dresses to floral printed tees tucked into skinny napa leather pants. The models walked down in navy jumpsuits, paired with golden ballet shoes with jewel embellishments. We particularly liked the geisha-inspired earrings and the leather cowboy boots with piping details.
Mumbai-based Rocky S cut to business with his usual repertoire: heavily ornate bridal pieces. Bridal is the main market whatever people might say, he defended his decision ahead of the show. His show, the last of the day,saw a full house, thanks to the buzz about yesteryear actor Hema Malini and daughter Esha Deol swishing down the runway. After the parade of 33 georgette lehengas and chiffon saris in reds and greens,Hema Malini walked down sedately with Deol, the latter in a green lehenga. This is the first time we are walking the ramp together. I was obviously nervous, hoping not to mess things up, said Deol, post the show,as mommy looked on appreciatively. Now that her sabbatical from Bollywood has become a rather prolonged affair,do we see Deol walking down the aisle any time soon? Not just yet, came the short reply.
