(Screengrab) The Ghaziabad police Wednesday suspended a police constable and registered a case against him following a viral video that purportedly showed him in uniform beating a person mercilessly on the road, officials said.
The accused has been identified as Rinku Rajaura, who is posted at Madhuban Bapudham police station in Ghaziabad district. Rajaura was seen assaulting the man in front of the public on Tuesday, the police said.
“The victim could not be identified yet, we are looking for him,” said Abhishek Srivastava, ACP Kavinagar, Ghaziabad, adding that a departmental inquiry will be ordered into the alleged incident.
“A viral video has been received through social media, where a policeman is seen thrashing a person. After examining the said video, it was found that the matter is related to the Kavi Nagar police station area. A case is being registered under the relevant sections. On the basis of the video, Rinku Rajoura has been suspended,” Srivastava said.
The police constable was booked under sections 323 (voluntarily causing hurt) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code.
“During the initial inquiry, the constable told the police that the man had roughed up someone he knew, and hence he thrashed him.
