Google’s “Year in Search 2025” report captures the trends that defined India’s curiosity—from rising entertainment stars and viral AI tools to travel hotspots, memes, and major news events.

Google has released its annual “India’s Year in Search 2025: The A to Z of Trending Searches” report, highlighting the search trends that defined what Indians were looking for this year. From Dharmendra to the Maha Kumbh, India’s search activity spanned an eclectic mix of people, events, and cultural moments.

Saiyaara stars Aneet Padda and Ahaan Pandey took Google Search by storm, followed by Final Destination, Kantara, and Squid Game. People also gave heartfelt tributes to Dharmendra and Zubeeh Garg. For a few weeks, Maha Kumbh dominated the news, while food searches for Thekua, Ukadiche Modak, and classic Idli soared to the top.

Despite ChatGPT’s popularity, Google Gemini managed to grab the number top overall search spot, reflecting the country’s use of AI tools like DeepSeek and Perplexity. As for AI trends, Gemini “Nano Banana” and X’s Grok took the internet by surprise. Talking of sports, IPL once again managed to grab the number one overall search spot. While many searched for rising stars like Vaibhav Suryavanshi and Jemimah Rodrigues, others looked up to the Women’s World Cup.

Phu Quoc also emerged as a popular breakout destination, despite rising searches for Pondicherry, Phuket and the Philippines. On social media, the Haldi water trend took over everyone’s feeds. Coming to memes and the internet, the “67 meme” went viral this year, which was followed by the Arjun Kapoor and the Vishal Mega Mart security guard meme.

Operation Sindoor, Pehelgam attack and questions like “What is ceasefire” also garnered high engagement. Other trending news searches were about air quality, earthquakes and local festivals like Dandiya and Durga Puja.
