The School of International Studies (SIS) at Jawaharlal Nehru University, as part of its 70th anniversary, will host its first Aravalli Summit, an international conference on the theme 'India and the World Order: Preparing for 2047' on October 6 and 7. The two-day event, being held in partnership with the Ministry of External Affairs and the Chintan Research Foundation, will be inaugurated by External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, himself a graduate of SIS. He will be joined by JNU Chancellor Ambassador Kanwal Sibal, Vice-Chancellor Santishree Dhulipudi Pandit, and other senior dignitaries. The gathering will bring together diplomats, scholars, and policymakers to reflect on India’s trajectory. The discussions, according to the organisers, will span economic growth, technological innovation, migration and diaspora, sustainability and climate justice, civilisational identity, and India’s evolving role as a global power. “The Aravalli Summit is a defining moment in the institution’s 70th year. SIS has long been a crucible where scholarship meets policy, and this conference embodies that spirit,” said Amitabh Mattoo, Dean of SIS, at a press conference announcing the event. “In these turbulent times, we need our ancient wisdom in our foreign policy, like the oldest mountain ranges of the Aravalli,” he added. The programme will also see the release of a special edition of the International Studies journal and the screening of a 15-minute documentary on the history and contributions of the school.
