The committee, to be funded by the UGC, consists of VS Chauhan, former chairperson, University Grants Commission (UGC); Anil Sahasrabudhe, chairperson of All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE); and Rajnish Jain, secretary of UGC.
In January 2018, the then JNU Students' Union president N Sai Balaji filed an RTI, seeking details on the total cost of constructing the statue and the source of funding. The varsity reportedly responded that “no JNU funds are being used”.

A scuffle broke out at the Patiala House court in New Delhi on Monday afternoon after a group of about 40 lawyers present inside the court started shouting anti-JNU slogans demanding that University faculty present inside the court leave. The faculty, however, refused to vacate the court forcing women police constables to arrive at the scene. – See more
