East Delhi murder: Body found in Mathura identified

The body of a 26-year-old man,who allegedly committed suicide by jumping in front of a train in Mathura after reportedly murdering a woman in East Delhi,has been identified by his family.

The body of a 26-year-old man,who allegedly committed suicide by jumping in front of a train in Mathura after reportedly murdering a woman in East Delhi,has been identified by his family.

Varun Mehta,who allegedly stabbed 24-year-old Deepshika Arora to death in his car in East Delhi after she turned down his offer for marriage,left Delhi after the murder and jumped in front of an incoming train at a railway station in Mathura.

His family went with a team of the East Delhi police to Mathura to claim the body.

Reconstructing the sequence of events,a senior police officer said Deepshika left her Jhilmil Colony residence and went for a drive with Mehta on Sunday evening in his Wagon-R. Around 9 pm,Deepshika’s body was found in the same vehicle parked inside the CB Grounds complex adjacent to the Karkardooma courts.

Mehta also left behind a note admitting to the crime. The police said Mehta worked as an assistant manager at an international finance chain. His father Deep Mehta is a lawyer at the Delhi High Court.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (East) K C Dwivedi said,“Mehta’s family has identified his body. We are investigating other facts in the case.”

Deepshika’s family said she was not in a relationship with Mehta. He used to keep pestering her to marry him,they added. “Everything was okay till about a week ago,when Mehta repeatedly called and intimidated her. He had once even threatened her mother,” Pawan Arora,Deepshika’s maternal uncle,said.
