DU dream looks elusive for Haryana students

It’s been over a month since the admissions process started at Delhi University, but students of the Haryana Board are still running from pillar-to-post for admissions as their board has not released their marksheets.

It’s been over a month since the admissions process started at Delhi University, but students of the Haryana Board are still running from pillar-to-post for admissions as their board has not released their marksheets. A few colleges are giving them admission on the basis of verification from the Dean of Students’ Welfare.

DU officials, however, said colleges may or may not accept these ‘verified’ marksheets,as the university bulletin clearly states that at the time of admissions, applicants will be requested to produce, mong other documents, their Class XII marksheet.

Interestingly, the Haryana board had released its results in the first week of June. Many boards that released results much later have already issued marksheets in time for the DU admissions.

“My marksheet has not been released. In the first cut-off list, most colleges denied admissions on the basis of e-marksheets. However, now colleges have asked students to get their e-marksheets verified by the Dean of Students’ Welfare,” Surender Kumar,an applicant, said.

S R Arora,Principal of Hansraj College, said: “We can’t verify marks from e-marksheets and need originals to admit students. In this case, however,we are accepting marksheets authenticated by the Dean’s office,” Arora said.

He blamed the board for the inconvenience caused. “I don’t think it should take that long to print and send the marksheets,” he said.

The Dean of Students’ Welfare office is verifying the e-marksheets provided by the board. “This is the first time we are facing a problem as far as the Haryana board is concerned. This has caused inconvenience to us as well as the students,” Gurpreet Singh Tuteja,Deputy Dean Students’ Welfare, said.

Sri Venkateswara College, meanwhile, has denied admitting any such candidates.

“We did get students from the Haryana Board with e-marksheets that were not verified by the Dean’s office during the first cut-off list. We had to refuse admission to them as they failed to produce originals. If we get marksheets with the seal of approval from the Dean’s office,we will to hold a committee meeting to decide our stand on the issue,” Nirmal Kumar, admissions convener at Venkateswara, said.
