DTC bus catches fire

A Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC),part of its old fleet,caught fire on Asaf Ali Road in South Delhi on Saturday.

A Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC),part of its old fleet,caught fire on Asaf Ali Road in South Delhi on Saturday.

The incident was reported around 10 am. The bus was plying on route 729 from Hari Nagar Depot-II to Mori Gate Terminal near the Delite Cinema. Two fire tenders were rushed to the spot,which took 35 minutes to bring the blaze under control.

“After noticing fire from the engine,the bus driver stopped immediately and asked the passengers to get down. No one was injured but the bus was completely damaged,” DTC officials said.

The officials added the bus was eight years old and nearing its time to be scrapped. “It had no fault as such and had covered 60 kms before the fire broke out,” the officials said.

Police have,meanwhile,formed a team to find the cause of the fire.
