The College of Art is going to town on their graduates’ exhibition

As one enters College of Art,a gargantuan steel bust of a man,his long steel arms raised, stop us. There are other surreal creatures and objects around. A magenta gorilla,a bulb installation made of books, and even a giant samosa. At the ongoing 60th edition of College of Art’s annual exhibition, over 700 students of the MFA and BFA courses have put up over 2,000 works from various faculties such as painting, visual communication, printmaking and sculpture.

One can find themes on women, violence and other social issues in paintings and sculptures. First-year MFA student,Akansha Tanwar’s self-titled fibre glass sculpture is a bust of a woman covered in colourful bindis, connoting “limitations faced by women and their different layers”. In the basement, the entrance is decked up with posters of “Gangs of VCpur”,VC connoting visual communications. For the first time, the exhibition includes a graphic novel, titled We See,by 24 second-year students of the department. The novel is a compilation of stories on various social issues such as women, gender, violence and alcoholism. The department, which was launched last year, also has an array of works such as photography,typography,stop-motion models, calligraphy and animation among others.

The exhibition is on till today at College of Art,20-22 Tilak Marg.

Entry is free.
