Delhi: Truck loses control and rams into pedestrians; 1 dead

A 36-year-old man died, while three others sustained serious injuries, after a truck lost control, collided with a parked motorcycle, and then rammed into multiple pedestrians on Monday morning near the Okhla Tank Bus Stand, said police.
The accused, identified as Brahmdeo Singh, 43, has been taken into custody.
“Eyewitnesses present at the spot said that… a truck loaded with gas cylinders came from the Ashram side, first collided with a parked motorcycle, and then rammed into multiple pedestrians. The driver of the offending vehicle did not stop and attempted to flee from the scene. However, he was apprehended by traffic police officials at the signal near Apollo Hospital,” said DCP (Southeast) Hemant Tiwari.
The Police Control Room (PCR) received an emergency call at 10.45 am, 30 minutes after the collision, reporting the accident. A police team was immediately dispatched to the scene, where they found a mangled motorcycle and the remains of several roadside fruit carts scattered across the pavement. The Crime Team from the Southeast District was called to document the scene, and a videographic survey of the accident site was conducted.
Four victims were rushed to Apollo Hospital by passersby and PCR personnel. One of the victims, identified as Sabbir, 36, was declared dead on arrival at the hospital. The three others sustained serious injuries and are currently under medical supervision, said police.
The injured have been identified as Mohammad Shanur (32), Suresh, (44), and Bibti (80). A case has been registered under sections 281, 125(a), and 106(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
The offending truck has also been seized, said police.
