Aam Aadmi Party national convenor Arvind Kejriwal Thursday said the upcoming Delhi elections will primarily be a battle between AAP and BJP, indirectly stating that the Congress is not a contender.
He made the statement at a press conference while responding to a question on Congress leader Sandeep Dikshit filing a defamation case against AAP and its leaders for saying he takes money from BJP.
“Delhi assembly elections are going to be between AAP and BJP… they (Congress) can only file cases… They are just pawns of the BJP. They follow the BJP’s directions like in a chess game. If the BJP asks him to take one step, he will take one, if it asks him to move two steps ahead, he will do that… If BJP asks them to go file cases they do, they ask him to go buy people from other parties, he does…,” said Kejriwal.
Dikshit did not respond to calls and messages seeking comment.
The AAP also pasted posters across Delhi, asking the BJP to reveal its CM candidate. “Our CM face is Kejriwal; now the ‘Gali Galoch Party’ (BJP) should also reveal its CM face… The BJP is like a wedding procession (baarat) without a groom and must tell Delhiites who its ‘groom’ is,” the party said.
Hitting back at AAP, Delhi BJP chief Virendra Sachdeva said Kejriwal is trying to mislead Delhiites by projecting himself as the CM face though legally he cannot work as one. “Today Kejriwal’s face is blackened by charges of corruption and misgovernance… and anarchism is not an asset but AAP’s biggest liability… Kejriwal should note that every BJP worker is today toiling as if he/she is the CM of Delhi to make lotus bloom on February 8…,” said Sachdeva.
Meanwhile, Kejriwal also thanked the India bloc allies for extending their support to AAP in the polls. “We are not contesting the polls with the INDIA bloc… But I thank all the bloc’s allies — Akhilesh ji, Mamta didi and Thackrey ji for their support in the upcoming polls,” he said.
The TMC and Samajwadi Party have openly backed the AAP, and the Shiv Sena (UBT) has said the AAP, and not the Congress, is in a better position to take on the BJP.
