Delhi: More rain expected today

The change in weather was caused due to western disturbances, said IMD officials, adding that it is likely to result in two rain spells in the capital.

Residents of Delhi got some respite from soaring temperatures Thursday, when parts of the capital received light rains and a brief hailstorm lashed Palam. However, the maximum temperature in the capital was 33.5 degrees Celsius, four notches about the season’s average, and the minimum temperature was 19 degrees Celsius, five notches above average.

“The capital is likely to experience rain Saturday and there is a possibility of hail as well. The sky will remain partly cloudy. There might be mist or haze in the morning,” said an IMD official. “A hailstorm was witnessed at IGIA Palam for a very brief while, at 5 pm, with sizes up to 1-2 mm. However, the hailstorm did not cause any significant effect,” said a senior IMD official.

The change in weather was caused due to western disturbances, said IMD officials, adding that it is likely to result in two rain spells in the capital.

“Most areas will experience rainfall Saturday, when the western disturbances are most active. The effect is likely to weaken Sunday afternoon,” said the official.

They added that another spell of rainfall, triggered by western disturbances, is likely to affect Delhi between March 17-18.
