The body of a 22-year-old man was found hanging from a tree at a residential colony in outer Delhi’s Shahbad Dairy area in the early hours of Monday, following which locals staged a protest alleging murder.
According to the police, the deceased was identified as Sudhir, an interior decorator, who lived with his parents in the locality. The police have found no suicide note from his person, said Deputy Commissioner of Police (Outer) Vikramjit Singh. “Prima facie it is a case of suicide. The body has been sent for postmortem examination and the report is awaited. Meanwhile, an inquest has been initiated into the matter,” Singh added.

The incident was reported around 3 AM, when some locals noticed the body and called up the police control room. “The rope was cut and Sudhir’s was brought down, after which he was rushed to a hospital, where he was declared dead,” officials said.
The incident triggered a violent protest in the area within a few hours and protesters allegedly damaged a DTC low-floor AC bus. The protest also disrupted flow of traffic in the area, said police. “Soon, a police team had to be deployed there and the situation was brought under control after senior officials intervened,” the officer added.
