Declamation contest at springdales

Springdales School,Pusa Road,hosted the inter-school declamation contest as part of DSLP’s initiative to promote literacy.

Springdales School,Pusa Road,hosted the inter-school declamation contest as part of DSLP’s initiative to promote literacy. Twelve schools from the North-west zone participated.

Principal Ameeta Mulla Wattal,in her welcome address,said the initiative had been instrumental in bringing together like-minded institutions in fulfilling the objective of ‘Each One,Teach One’ and universalisation of education.

Chief guest Debjani Sengupta,associate professor of English at Indraprastha College for Women,emphasised on the role literate youth can and must play in raising the literacy levels in the country.

General Narender Singh,chairperson,managing board,also graced the occasion. Saravjeet Singh and Harleen Kaur from Guru Tegh Bahadur 3rd Centenary School were declared winners of the contest.

Music programme marks Gandhi Jayanti

Sarvodaya International Trust (New Delhi chapter) and India International Centre organised ‘An Evening of Music — Songs of Harmony’ on the eve of Gandhi Jayanti and the International Day of Non-Violence at IIC on September 30.

The guest of honour was B G Verghese,eminent journalist,activist,educationist and former chairman of the trust.

DPS,Raj Nagar,organises book fair

The Annual Book Fair at Delhi Public School,Raj Nagar,was held on Sept 27-29 within the school premises. It was inaugurated by Hemant Kumar,eminent writer and author of Prey By The Ganges. Around 22 distributers and publication houses showcased their books. “We believe books encourage imagination,inculcate reading habit and sharpen mental acumen. We organise the book fair every year to help parents get good reading material from a wide variety of publications,” principal Shashi Ranjan said.

Workshop on learning disability

Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan’s Mehta Vidyalaya organised a training workshop for teachers on ‘Learning Disability’ and ‘Teachers as Leaders’ on Sept 24. The session on learning disability was conducted by school counsellor Jyoti Dev Rishi. The session focused on what is learning disability,its characteristics and remedial strategies required for a student with learning disability. The next session,‘Teachers as Leaders’,was conducted by Vandana Tandon,NIE expert.

Kathak programme at Bal Bharati School

A Spicmacay programme was held on Sept 13 in the auditorium of Bal Bharati Public School,Pitampura. Renowned Kathak danseuse Mahua Shankar performed before

students of Class IX. She was assisted on the harmonium by Ghulam Waris. Pranshu Chaturlal accompanied her on the tabla. Nupur Shankar and Waris lent her vocal support. Mahua Shankar patiently

explained the nuances of the dance to the children.

Foundation day at Birla Vidya Niketan

Students,staff and principal of Birla Vidya Niketan,Pushp Vihar,celebrated the school’s 30th Foundation Day with enthusiasm. The day began with an invocation followed by a melodious rendition of the song,Power of the Green. Principal M Kushwaha presented the school report. She was assisted by the school headboy,headgirl and other student council members.

Mount Carmel hosts mock G-15 summit

The Commerce department of Mount Carmel School,Dwarka,organised a mock G-15 summit. The event was an academic simulation of the G-15 summit. Economics students of Class XI enacted the role of ministers of various G-15 countries and addressed issues ranging from climate change,nuclear proliferation,industrial development,economic growth,foreign trade and investment,scientific research and development etc. At the mock summit,the students employed a variety of communication and critical thinking skills such as public speaking,group communication,research,policy analysis and negotiation to represent the policies and problems of their ‘respective countries’. The ‘summit’ ended with a promise of co-operation in various areas for achieving the common goal of enhanced growth and prosperity of member nations.

CCE workshop for teachers at Ramjas

A Capacity-building workshop on CCE was held for teachers of Ramjas School,Pusa Road. The workshop was conducted by Meera Balachandran,director,Learning Links,and Chandeep Marwah of the same organisation. Since the introduction of Continuous Comprehensive Evaluation,assessment patterns have changed radically. Coping with the new pattern for scholastic as well as co-scholastic areas of the curriculum has become a challenging task. The objective of the one-day interactive session was to equip teachers with the necessary skills and expertise. The workshop provided relevant,innovative and practical solutions to teachers to build on their knowledge and skills. It aimed to enhance the competence of teachers by introducing them to new tools and strategies.

Social science fest at GTB school

‘Social Science Spectrum’ was organised by the Social Science department of Guru Tegh Bahadur 3rd Centenary Public School. A wide range of activities were organised under Word Search for classes IV-V,Map Mania for classes VI-VIII,Preparing Profile for Class IX,and Designing Pamphlet for Class X. The Display Boards and Informa were aesthetically designed by Harsimer Kaur (X-A),Kishneet Kaur (X-A),Simran Meena (XI-A) and Harsimran Kaur (X-A).

Maths and science week at St Mark’s

St Mark’s Sr Sec Public School,Janakpuri,organised ‘Maths & Science Week’. The enthusiasm and confidence of participants impressed everyone. School director Anjali Aggarwal,principal Rama Sethi,vice-principal Alka Kher and Gurpreet Tuteja,HoD,Maths department (Delhi University),praised the efforts of the students and school staff.

Programme for parents at G D Salwan

The Early Childhood department of G D Salwan Public School organised ‘Atulya Bharat: Azadi ka Utsav’ for the parents in the school premises. The programme commenced with welcoming of the guests and then lighting of the lamp. School chairman Maj-Gen J K Kapoor addressed the gathering. Taking references from the Ramayana,he spoke about how the magnum opus of Hindu mythology can be used to teach children to have strong morals and live a life of righteousness. He said that the Ramayana will enrich their lives and help them be the leaders of tomorrow with strong cultural and traditional influences.
