With no matches at the Ferozeshah Kotla, the Delhi-based IPL team say they will be hit financially
The Delhi Daredevils management has begun to count the losses the franchise will have to bear after news broke that the Ferozeshah Kotla will not play host to Daredevils home matches this year as per the re-revised schedule for the second season of the Indian Premier League.
The IPL teams CEO,Amrit Mathur, said the development would have serious financial implications.
We are disappointed that we will not play our matches in Delhi, and I am sure it is the same for the Capitals fans, who will not see their stars at home, Mathur told Sportline on Tuesday. This will have a substantial impact on us,details of which need to be worked out. But yes, this decision does impact us financially, he said.
When quizzed as to what happens to the plans to connect with citys fans through membership drives,Mathur said those would also take a hit. Obviously this happened under extraordinary situations, one that was beyond our control,so everything takes a back seat. He was relieved that the uncertainties about the IPL taking place was finally cleared, but made no bones about missing out on home matches, unlike centres like Mohali,Kolkata,Chennai and Mumbai, which will get to host matches.
DDCA at ease
The mood is totally the opposite in the Delhi and Districts Cricket Association (DDCA) ranks. DDCA general secretary Sneh Bansal said the association would not lose out on the money,as everything was taken care of by the GMR group.
We had an understanding with the franchisee under which all the requirements were taken care by the franchisee. Yes,we got Rs 70 lakh for matches last year, but that was spent on maintaining the several generators that were needed for the matches. So I dont think this news affects us financially, he said.
Bansal added that DDCA members and fans will definitely be sad on the decision. Our members and fans will be hit. Members got free passes for the matches last time and fans will now have to watch the action on television.
