Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) School,Delhi managed to draw their last league match to ensure a final spot in the Mahindra Youth Football Challenge on Monday. CRPF drew Don Bosco High School,Mumbai 2-2 at the Bangalore Football Stadium to finish second on the league table and will now take on Pandua SBS High School,Kolkata,in the final on Tuesday.
Don Bosco started on an attacking note and were rewarded almost immediately,when Vikrant Belwalkar opened the scoring in the 5th minute itself. He doubled the lead 10 minutes later before Mukesh Kumar pulled one back in the 22nd minute. However,despite repeated attempts after that,Don Bosco were unable to break past a stubborn CRPF defence to go into half time with a slender 2-1 lead.
In the second half,Don Bosco continued from where they had left off,creating chances galore and repeatedly thretening the CRPF citadel. However,it was the Delhi school that scored,against the run of the play,in the 42nd minute,when Abhishek Yadav made a brilliant solo effort to shoot past the Mumbai goalkeeper. Don Bosco, continued to push desperately for the winner but were unsuccessful,with most of their shots off target and going over.
In the other match of the day,Pandua SBS High School,who had already booked their spot in the final,played at a relaxed pace but still managed to pump in six goals — Jayanta Murmu scored thrice,Sunil Tudu scored a brace and Jiten Saren netted one — against a hapless Mallapuram Special High School,Kerala to finish with an all-win record on top of the table with 15 points. CRPF have 10 points with three wins,one loss and a draw.
