A Delhi Police constable has been suspended for allegedly beating up a senior sub-inspector in the Chanakyapuri area of New Delhi district.
Sources said the incident took place on May 21,when Sub-Inspector R K Dubey reportedly tried to stop Constable Arvind (29) from demanding a bribe during vehicle checking in the Chanakyapuri area. When the S-I objected to his extorting money from people during routine checks and patrolling,he beat him up. Arvind has been suspended and departmental as well as vigilance inquiries have been initiated against him in the matter, a police officer said.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (New Delhi) Shankar Dash said,We have ordered an inquiry into the matter, however, nothing can be said as it is in process.
Police sources, meanwhile, said Arvind,a resident of Bhind-Morena in Madhya Pradesh, has been posted at the Chanakyapuri police station for the past three years. Dubey is a resident of Chhapra in Bihar.
Police sources said Arvind was allegedly in an inebriated state when Dubey tried to stop him from demanding a bribe from a motorist. A heated argument broke out between the two and Arvind allegedly beat Dubey up.
The police said Arvind allegedly threatened Dubey. Dubey asked Arvind to let the Maruti Van being checked go. Arvind, however, kicked him. As Arvind was carrying a loaded revolver and was drunk,Dubey preferred not to retaliate and called up the police station. However,Arvind fled the spot, after which Dubey registered a complaint with senior police officials about the incident, the police source said. The matter was also reported to the top brass of the district.
