The Congress has decided to revitalise its presence at the district level. In what a party statement described as an “earnest exercise to rejuvenate… the party”, heavyweights, including former Lok Sabha speaker Meira Kumar, former Union minister Ghulam Nabi Azad and senior leader Mallikarjun Kharge will address 14 conventions in Delhi.
The idea, party spokesperson Sharmishtha Mukherjee said, was to not just connect with the grassroot-level workers, “but also to create and provide an open forum for free debates, discussions and suggestions”.
The first convention at Karol Bagh on May 4 will be addressed by Meira Kumar, followed by one at Tilak Nagar and another at Chandni Chowk on May 5 and May 6. These two will be addressed by Kharge and Azad respectively.
