Meteor shower to light up night sky
New Delhi:The annual Perseids meteor shower will light the sky from Sunday night,promising a spectacular show for the next two nights. The most famous of the meteor showers,Perseids is an annual phenomenon that occurs between mid-July and early-August when the earth passes through the remains of comet Swift-Tuttle,the greatest activity occurring in the second week of August. NASA has predicted this years spectacle to be the best meteor shower of the year with a blizzard of shooting stars. The shooting stars will be visible from August 12 to 14.
HC to hear Gupta plea against Sheila Dikshit
New Delhi:The Delhi High Court will hear on Monday the plea of city BJP president Vijender Gupta seeking to quash the lower court summons to him on Chief Minister Sheila Dikshits defamation complaint against him. Justice P K Bhasin,who had earlier issued the notice to Dikshit seeking her response to Guptas plea,would hear the matter.
Rape charge against Ghaziabad principal
New Delhi:Noida police have registered a case against the principal of a public school in Ghaziabad for allegedly raping a woman. The woman from Chhattisgarh had gone to meet the principal for a job in the school. He allegedly gave her sedatives and raped her. She moved court on August 10. Investigations are on, Noida Superintendent of Police (City) Yogesh Kumar said.
Delhi to give Rs 1 cr to ace wrestler Sushil
New Delhi:Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit on Sunday announced an award of Rs 1 crore for wrestler Sushil Kumar for his 2012 Olympic silver medal. Every Indian is proud of his feat. Sushil has brought laurels for Delhi and the country, Dikshit said.
