NEW DELHI: A Class X student in a govt school in South Delhi slapped his teacher when she objected to his remarks. The altercation occurred after he reportedly blocked the passage of her car on Monday afternoon. According to police,the boy also threatened to kill the teacher when she said she would lodge a police complaint against him. A case under Sections 323 (voluntarily causing hurt),506 (criminal intimidation) and 509 (word,gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman) were lodged against the boy. A senior police officer said the incident came to their notice after the teacher approached them with a written complaint. “The accused slapped and threatened to kill her,” said DCP (South) Chayya Sharma.

Chaos at Old Delhi Railway Station

To make platform numbers sequential and prevent unnecessary confusion among passengers,Railway officials have reversed the order in which platforms are numbered at the Old Delhi Railway Station. For the moment,however,the move has only served to puzzle regular commuters,with several arriving at the wrong platforms.

Indian receives China’s only literary award

B R Deepak,currently a visiting professor and Dean of the School of Languages at the Doon University in Dehradun,was conferred with China’s only literary award on August 30 at Beijing’s National Centre of Performing Arts. The 5th edition of the Special Book Award,instituted by the country’s media regulator General Administration of Press and Publication (GAPP),was awarded to five people this year.
